Thanks To Players Proving "Weightgate" Was An Issue, Destiny 2 Fixes Perk Drop Issue, "Double Drops" Coming As Compensation
The community was sure there was an issue...and they were right.
I love when things like this happen. If you don't know about Destiny 2's latest "weightgate" drama, let me explain.
Wait, there is no time, let me sum up.
When Destiny 2 dropped the Vesper's Host dungeon into the shooter, not only was the new content welcome, but players also enjoyed the opportunity to grab a grenade launcher called the VS Chill Inhibitor. The launcher could also drop with the Envious Arsenal perk, a perk that caused the launcher to reload when a player dealt damage with a different weapon.
Pretty dope, right? Not only that, the way Chill interacted with certain other weapons can lead to some nutty combinations. That said, players were convinced that the launcher and perk combination just weren't dropping at the same rates as other rewards and accused Bungie of fudging the numbers. Bungie replied saying that there was no weighting going on.
Turns out, they were wrong and it was the community that proved it. There's a great breakdown of the proof over on PC Gamer if you like getting into the nitty gritty, but Bungie plans to release an in-depth article of their own soon.
Bungie did some investigation of their own afterwards and found out that players were, in fact, right. There was some inadvertent weighting taking place and the team is dropping a fix for that today.
As a way to say sorry, Destiny 2's Vesper's Host will offer double drops starting on November 19th through December 3rd. Whether it's encounter or activity completions, you can net double rewards.
While that's great for those trying to farm certain weapon and perk combinations, not everyone is thrilled with players now likely being able to get something they themselves had to farm for hours for...but yeah, go get your gear.
