TennoCon 2024: New Frames, New Heirloom Skins, Animation Collaboration, And Warframe 1999 Content Coming
Every announcement coming out of TennoCon for Tenno to sink their teeth into!
TennoCon 2024 has been busting at the seams with information today. If you missed the keynote and demo of Soulframe, be sure to check out our entire recap piece. This post, though, is going to focus on the numerous announcements made by the Digital Extremes team about their flagship shooter, Warframe.
First up, let's talk new content. Warframe: 1999 is coming this winter. This new angle to Warframe takes players back to an Earth in 1999. Things aren't going well in this alternate timeline and you'll have to team up with a few friends using "Protoframes" and locate Dr. Entrati before the new year begins.
The new Warframe we'll be seeing is CYTE-09. While this treasure hunter used to be a loner, they are now ready to help out back in 1999, but don't worry. You'll be able to bring the sniper's skills back to the current time, too. Beret and all.
Helping the Protoframes in 1999 isn't just a story beat, either...you can actually romance these characters through a new romance system...certainly not something I ever thought I would see in Warframe. It's not exactly a universe know for a lot of love.
Since we're talking about things I never thought I'd see in Warframe, let's talk a bit about the 90s boy band Technocyte Coda. Yes, that's a real thing. In 1999, Nick Apostolides (Resident Evil 4's Leon S. Kennedy) voices one of the band members, and yes, they've got a single you can actually download on Spotify tomorrow.
For your existing Warframes, we got to see a slew of new skins, weapons, mounts, and more. This included a new mode of transportation, the Atomicycle. We've actually seen this before, but we'll finally be able to get our hands on it soon. The weapons front is a bit interesting. You'll be seeing takes on actual weapons with their own little Warframe tweaks. Gemini skins will be available for both current frames and Protoframes, as will some new emotes.
While Warframe: 1999 won't arrive until later this year, you will be able to get a taste of what's to come when a kind of "prelude" for 1999 comes out in August. "The Lotus Eaters" quest will begin to up the stakes of 1999 even more, while bringing back some familiar faces. "The Lotus Eaters" quest picks up right after the existing "Whispers in the Walls" quest.
The August update will also drop Sevagoth Prime, complete with a lot of gold.
If you are sick of time-gated Ember and Rhino Heirloom skins, forget about it. The gating has been cast aside and they are now available permanently.
One more thing, if you're looking for some extra fun. How about a collaboration with THE LINE to introduce you to more of the Warframe: 1999 world through an animated short coming later this year.
Quite a bit of Warframe news and you can catch up on any videos you may have missed below!
