T-Minus Zero Working In Unreal Engine 5 To Create Multiplayer Game Based On "Globally Recognized" IP
They want to do things that haven't been done in multiplayer games.
What it is and when it's coming are both top secret at the moment, but we do know that newly formed studio T-Minus Zero Entertainment will be using Unreal Engine 5 to create a new third-person shooter based on a globally recognized public domain IP.
"So we’re working on a third-person shooter," Studio Head Rich Vogel (former SWTOR producer) told MP1st.com. "It’s going to be an online game. It’s going to be session-based. We’d like to get people to enjoy themselves, even for a few minutes, and then they can continue playing if they want to, or they can come back another day to play. We will have assistance with the game, and there are reasons. We are working on IP I’d say that’s a public domain, but we can’t talk about it. It’s something that’s globally recognized, and when we do it, and people see it, they’ll understand it, but we’re going to make it our own, we’re going to actually make it our own. So we have a lot of leeway to do so, a we want to build, epic, immersive worlds that form vibrant communities. Basically, for lasting relationships in online games. So that’s my passion. That’s the team’s passion. And we have a really good critical team of very senior people we’re working with, with lots of experience."
That's about all we know about the game at the moment, but the team has also stated that they are prototyping some things that you don't see done in multiplayer games, and rarely in single-player games. Again, everything was very vague as they are early in the process and don't want to overpromise on things they may or may not be able to deliver.
"As Rich said, it is ambitious," Game Director Mark Tucker told MP1st. "Some of the stuff that we’re trying to do hasn’t been done in multiplayer games. It really hasn’t been done much in single-player games. It really has some interesting challenges, but it’s a hero-player fantasy that I think we all have like we all want to experience it, but it's technically been very, very hard to do. I think we’re at a point now with the technology and just improvements in multiplayer. We have a producer’s team, and I think we have a shot at pulling it off. So as Rich mentioned, really risky things are the first things we’re prototyping to try to make sure we can do it."
About the only thing we know for sure right now is that T-Minus Zero Entertainment is working on a third-person shooter in UE5. What IP they are using and what this unused game mechanic is remains a mystery for now. It sounds like everything is in very early prototyping stages, so I wouldn't expect to see much more information from them anytime soon, but it does leave one curious as to what exactly is going on behind the curtain.
