Stormhaven Studios Shifting Embers Adrift To Buy-To-Play Model
As long as someone owns the game, they can play through all the content without a sub, but with some restrictions.
Here’s some interesting news for Embers Adrift players – or perhaps for lapsed players. Come the end of June, anyone who purchased the MMORPG will be able to log in and play without the need of a subscription.
Stormhaven Studios announced the change in the game’s monetization model via the game’s forums. According to the post, when the game is purchased doesn’t matter. As long as a player owns the game, they’ll be able to play through all the content without the need for a sub. There are – of course – limitations, however. For one thing, players without a sub are limited to a single character, whereas subbed players will have additional character slots. In fact, subbed players will be able to create even more characters than the currently allotted three.
Some of the other restrictions might be mildly annoying, but shouldn’t affect gameplay that much. That includes things like emote access and portrait selection. There will also be a “subscriber only” chat channel that non-subbed players won’t be able to take part in. Those things aside, one restriction may feel a bit too limiting for players – stash and back storage. Of course, at the moment, we don’t know just how restricted that is. It may be fine, but if anything will truly irritate players, that will be it.
