STO Celebrates Star Trek Day With Special In-Game Event
Celebrate Star Trek’s 55th anniversary with a visit to the Starfleet Museum above Deep Space 9.
Star Trek has been a part of our lives for over half a century since the original series first aired on September 8th, 1966. It’s a pretty safe bet that when the whole thing started, Gene Roddenberry and Lucille Ball never imagined the show would live on across so many series, books, and video games. Nor could they have imagined celebrating the franchise’s 55th anniversary with an event in an MMO that takes place in a space station seen in one of the TV series. It’s a bit crazy when you stop and think about it, but it’s what’s happening.
Today Cryptic kicked off the celebration of Star Trek Day in Star Trek Online. Contrary to the event’s name it’s actually a two-week-long event. Between now and September 22, players on every platform can visit a special Starfleet Museum orbiting above Deep Space Nine and Earth Space Dock. This museum features ships seen in TV shows, movies, and more. In addition, players can hail these ships and hear messages from the crew as well as various facts about the ships. Hailing all the ships will earn players a special title: Historical Documents Expert.
If you have a little time today, you can hit up the Star Trek Day site and watch panels on various Star Trek-related topics, including info on Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Prodigy. The panel kicks off today at 5:30 Pacific beginning with an orchestral performance and since Star Trek themes are some of the best themes, that alone is worth the watch.
