Star Trek Online To Honor Leonard Nimoy With In-Game Spock Memorial
Many people are honoring legendary actor Leonard Nimoy, who passed away on Friday, even though very few had the chance to interact with him directly. Cryptic Studios was one of the lucky few organizations who were lucky enough to work with Nimoy, who did voiceover work for Star Trek Online, and its tribute to Nimoy and his iconic character, Mr. Spock, will be implemented in the game this week.
At the end of a long forum thread requesting it, Star Trek Online Executive Producer Steve Ricossa confirmed on the STO forums that the dev team would be an in-game memorial to Nimoy and his Spock character with the March 5 patch.
"In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts."
It's not the first time an MMO has paid tribute to a deceased actor. Last year, Blizzard added a Robin Williams-inspired genie NPC; Williams was known to have been a devoted WoW player. Many other MMOs have often paid tribute to deceased celebrities and everyday players.

"We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human."
