Star Trek Online's First Episode Since DECA Took Over Releases Today On PC As The MMO Celebrates 15 Years
The team is also prepping a new ship bundle based on the original motion pictures.
Yesterday, DECA Games and Community Manager Counselor Sunna officially introduced themselves to the Star Trek Online community via official posts on the MMORPG's website. While the posts themselves don't really reveal actual new information besides the "we're looking forward to doing great things with the MMO" vibe the company was already giving off unofficially, it does at least serve as an official introduction (finally) and announces that a stream will be coming soon to talk about the future.
One of the future things mentioned is new content. After taking over for Cryptic, DECA has said they will continue to make new episodes for Star Trek Online players. That begins today with Unveiled on PC. DECA calls this "their first episode," but I would guess that it's a bit of a crossover episode between the old Cryptic team and the new DECA team. Given some Cryptic staff were kept for the transition period and content is developed pretty far in advance, that seems likely to me.
Unveiled sees STO players headed into new adventures to learn more about the "Harmony." What adventures? How about a new incursion at the Ram Izad system led by a vicious new Borg. Jonathan Del Arco returns to the STO universe as Hugh, the cooperative Borg leader. Upon arriving to a distress call, you'll be partnering up with them and a few other familiar faces to determine what happened to Thaseen-Fei's damaged ship, the Harmony.
While the new episode certainly gives you plenty to do, the MMORPG is also gearing up to celebrate 15 years. A select batch of content will be made available for you to complete to earn rewards including a T6 Garret Command Alliance Dreadnought Cruiser. Stay tuned on the anniversary portion, too. STO will be setting up a new ship bundle based on the original 6 films, starting with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. More details should arrive when Unveiled drops on consoles.
As a reminder, that console release date for Unveiled is March 11th.
