Standing Stone Games Is Testing Replacement For LotRO's Legendary Item System
Over a decade after their introduction, and a year after Standing Stone Games announced that they would be changed -- for what seemed like the eighth time -- The Lord of the Rings Online's legendary items might finally be getting the revamp they desperately need.
MassivelyOP is pointing to a "leak from the alpha forums," saying that "Legendary Items v3.0" is currently undergoing testing. To recap, you currently unlock legendaries at level 50, and then from 50 to 100, you need to deal with "the system," after which it's a slightly less grindy-system, which was introduced in 2015. The new still doesn't sound fun, but at least it requires a little less than a Master's Degree in inventory management, which I earned for LotRO circa 2008.
The new system will apparently introduce socketed gear at level 50, which players can upgrade over time by means of a legendary reward track. High-level armor also has sockets, so the two systems might be similar on the surface, though the way you acquire them -- a "track" as opposed to the usual questing or rep grind you need to get items -- might be better. Or it might be worse. Considering the last time SSG tried to tweak LIs, it could go either way.
