Snail Games Reportedly Suing Angela Game For Stealing Code From Ark: Survival Evolved
A third party claims Angela Game did steal the code and tried to cover it up.
There’s been a bit of legal shenanigans in the video game development landscape. (Is anyone surprised?) According to reports on MMO Fallout, Snail Games, the developer of Ark: Survival Evolved, is suing Myth of Empires developer Angela Game for stealing code from them. The claim alleges that a former employee of Snail games sniped the code and took it with them to Angela.
The lawsuit has been going on for some time, something we reported on almost 10 months ago. According to the report, Bob Ziedman was brought on back in March to act as a neutral party and check the code on both games in order to determine the truth. Zeidman made his report last month and it determined that Angela Game did copy large chunks of code from Ark: Survival Evolved and even more went to great effort to hide the fact.
That’s not great news for Angela Game, but things get worse. The company’s attorneys at Hughes, Hubbard, and Reed LLP dropped them due to unpaid bills. The developer has hired on an apparently less expensive firm, Blue Peak Law Group LLP. In addition, Myth of Empires is still unavailable on Steam due to a DMCA takedown. They had filed an appeal with the 9th Circuit court to have the takedown rescinded, but that attempt failed, so now both sides are working on pre-trial discovery.
