Smite Immortalizes Shoutcaster John Finch In Game Map
This way, he’ll still be part of every game.
Back in May, the Smite community lost a much-loved member when SPL Caster John Finch passed away suddenly. You may remember this happening as the Smite Pro League decided to postpone several of their events in order to allow everyone to mourn Finch’s passing. Of course, as is often the case with online games and beloved members of their communities, the Smite team also wanted some way to honor him in a permanent manner. Today, we found out what method they chose, and honestly, it’s pretty sweet.
No, they didn’t create a god skin for him. Instead, Finch will be watching over the matches in the form of a…well…a finch, hanging out in a nest overlooking the action. You can see the little guy in action himself in the tweet from the SPL account.
Now he's with us for this SPL game and every SPL game to come. ❤️
We love you and miss you every day, John 💛⚡ pic.twitter.com/RNLiQJrn1m

The in-game finch isn’t the only way the team is honoring Finch. Earlier this month they announced “Finchmas”, a charity event that will take place on December 11. At this time, that’s all we know about the event, but the SPL Twitter account does promise to provide more information in the coming weeks. If you’re feeling a bit generous, keep an eye out to see what they’re planning.
Earlier this year, we lost a legend. Now we want to honor John Finch's memory as best we can. 💛
We're excited to announce that we'll be hosting a Finchmas charity event next month on December 11. More details coming in the next few weeks, stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/D4lBYONlRz
