Smite Is Getting Its First Playable Titan, As Atlas Breaks From Carrying The World To Join The Fray
Titan Forge Games posts a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Atlas.
Titans may have been a part of Titan Forge Games’ MOBA Smite for a long time now, but that’s as bosses, not playable characters. That’s about to change with the introduction of Atlas to the game. You know who we’re talking about, the guy commonly thought to carry the world on his back (It’s the cosmos.)
Today, Titan Forge published a post detailing the process of creating an Atlas that would work within the game while continuing to fit his mythology. In fact, it seems like Atlas’s particular myth might actually have a significant impact on the game’s lore as the question of what would happen if he decides to stop carrying the cosmos come into play.
Of course, the post also addresses his appearance. This includes his stone-like skin and his cosmic hair. He’s also taller than the other gods – but not as tall as the Titan bosses because that would just be ridiculous.
Gameplay-wise, he’s a guardian and focuses on crowd control, supporting allies, or hindering the opposition. He’s designed to be duo lane. He’s also unique in that as weapons go, he’s the first god in the game to actually have his weapon leave his hands when he throws it. While the Astrolabe is out of his hands, his attacks change to reflect that. Speaking of throwing, he can also actually pick up enemy gods and throw them about so there’s something new for everyone to worry about.
