SMITE Developers Dissect New Character Bake Kujira, The Ghost Whale Solo Laner
This spirit controls space to seek cruel revenge on humans...especially whalers.
The sea is a harsh mistress.
SMITE’s developers have provided insights into the development and design process of the character Bake Kujira. It is known as the Yokai of Despair and referred to as a Japanese Guardian Solo Laner inspired by the ancient Japanese practice of hunting whales. The character is portrayed as a manifestation of despair, seeking revenge for the pain caused to sea life by humans.
It’s basically a ghost whale with the ability to control space and bring a slow, inevitable death to enemies.
The decision to make Bake Kujira a solo lane focused Guardian in the MOBA was based on exploring more lane-dominant gameplay loops while maintaining impactful teamfight abilities. Besides unique gameplay features, it comes with a new type of basic attack, stat conversion, cooldown reduction, a rare debuff on the ultimate, and powerful disruptions to players' senses.
For more details on Bake Kujira, tune into SMITE's official Twitch channel today at 3 PM (ET) where the full reveal of the new character is happening.
