Anyone who plays online games with role systems knows that not all players are equal when it comes to playing different roles. Some are fantastic at tanking, some make terrible healers, and then there are those of us who really only excel at smacking things in the face with a big stick.

Because of this, ranking players for matchmaking in MOBAs has never been an exact science since a typical way of doing this is tracking players’ average skill rating without taking roles into account. This is what Titan Forge Games is looking to fix with Smite 2.

Today, the developer shared details on the “MOBA Specific Matchmaking” system that will be included in Smite 2 when it launches. Rather than tracking a single number for each player, the new system – which is built on ten years of research and player feedback – will track player performance on different roles.
