SMITE 2 Devs Share Details On How Unreal Engine 5 Lets Them Improve The Conquest Map
It's going to be an upgraded experience.
As you might imagine, moving from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 5 has given the SMITE 2 devs many new toys to play with and, in doing so, given them the tools to greatly improve the upcoming MOBA sequel over its predecessor. Today the SMITE 2 team released a new video talking about this, and what it means for the Conquest game mode in SMITE 2.
There will be new strategies in the Jungle and with the Fire Giant, as they all now level up as you defeat them, offering stronger buffs over time. The Gold Fury will also become more relevant toward the endgame in SMITE 2 as she will shut down enemy towers and phoenixes. The new solo lane objective is the Warhorn, which bolsters the team's minions who control the objective.
Add to all that the small details, like you don't just walk over buffs to pick them up anymore. Once you defeat a buff camp and the buff drops on the ground you have to actively hit a button to claim the buff, helping to prevent accidental pick-ups by players not paying attention.
Of course, the game looks much better. There's so much more detail in characters, animations, particles, and the world. It is, obviously, a drastic difference over the original SMITE.
