Smilegate Opens Development Studio In Barcelona To Work On "Open World Console Title"
Smilegate, the makers of the incredibly-popular-in-Asia Crossfire first-person shooter and someday-coming-to-the-West-we-hope ARPG Lost Ark, has opened a new development studio in Barcelona, Spain. The studio will be "ready to create a AAA experience" said CEO of Smilegate Barcelona Yongil Kim, with its first project being an "open world console title."
There aren't any other details as to what form that game will take -- RPG, MMORPG, shooter, or anything else -- or whether it will be free-to-play, but considering Smilegate's portfolio, that's at least a possibility, and we'll keep an eye on future developments.
Smilegate Barcelona currently has just over 20 people on its staff and is looking for more. On the off chance that you'd happen to be qualified to work there, you can apply for a position on the studio's website. According to a press release, Barcelona was chosen for its "exploding tech industry and high quality of life," which includes "stunning beaches, vibrant architecture, one of Europe's largest football stadiums." Here's hoping that the employees will have the time to enjoy all those features.
