Skull & Bones Is Still Coming, And It Will Be ‘Multiplayer-First’
Looks like players will have to build their own ships, too
Despite all of its troubles, Ubisoft still intends to release Skull & Bones sometime within the next fiscal year. Of course, that means we may still not see it until 2023, since fiscal years start in April. During the latest Ubisoft earnings call, CFO Frédérick Duguet offered a bit of insight into the company’s current plans for the game, noting that they’re focusing on “multiplayer-first” with this IP, making it “consistent with [their] strategy to bring multiplayer competition and co-op first in a big open world, with a great, attractive fantasy”.
This means that the original focus of a co-op game with a single-player campaign has more or less been put to the wayside. Instead, the game will feature a persistent world with all the stuff you’d expect from an open-world multiplayer game. This means quests, evolving storylines, and…according to Video Games Chronicle…survival elements. Players are going to have to collect resources and build their own ships. On the upside, they will get rafts to start with. If you’re wondering how you progress, we’re not one-hundred percent certain on this, but VGC reports that current info indicates it’s based on the money players accumulate doing a variety of things from jobs to plundering settlements.
