Shroud Of The Avatar Adds 2 New, More Expensive Sub Options Since Current Sub Can't Keep Up With Costs
Players can also celebrate the Bug Brigade's 4th anniversary and get a ton of bug and issues fixed.
Shroud of the Avatar's Update 129 is now available in the MMORPG and the update is very full of bug fixes and updates to existing issues as this month was a "polish" month for the team. Don't worry, if you're after new content, Release 130 will have that for you.
There is a small piece of content added in the way of an anniversary celebration for the Bug Brigade. There's a party coming, complete with a DJ and music, games, and dancing on September 21st. Head to Brekken Bay to dance the night away.
Release 129 also adds two new additional tiers of subscriptions for players to purchase. While Shroud of the Avatar is a F2P MMO, there has always been a $9 per month optional subscription that helped fund development. Players received additional perks like cash shop currency and potions. Nothing pay-to-win, of course, just some monthly extras for supporting the team.
While direct cash shop purchases are certainly welcome, they don't provide nearly enough income to pay the dev team or cover development costs. The optional subscription if the primary income for the game. However, even that isn't enough anymore. "The current subscription model is not enough to keep up with increasing costs due to inflation and our small player base. To help us increase income to allow for continued development and to resume marketing, we have added two additional tiers to the subscription model," says the team.
To hopefully help, the team is adding two new subscription options at higher rates. The original package will still be available, these options just give you even more monthly bonuses for more cash. Tier 2 will cost you $18 a month, and Tier 3 will be $27 a month. Each subscription tier offers players more potions and cash shop currency than the previous package.
If you're a fan of Shroud of the Avatar, it's probably time to get some friends into the game and sub up. Honestly, it's never really good news when a team says their current funding isn't enough to support things as they exist today. That usually leads to darker announcements in the future. Hopefully that's not the case for Shroud of the Avatar.
I will say that I like seeing the team keeping the current package at the existing rate. Adding additional, more expensive subscriptions is likely a better option than just trying to increase the cost on all your existing subscribers. Now to see if it helps.
