Sega’s Irvine And Burbank Offices Officially Become Largest Multi-Department Union In Video Games
Over 200 employees unionized under the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega.
We have another round of good news on the video game workers' front. Another union has been formed. Two months after announcing plans to do so, over 200 Sega of America employees have unionized as Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega and, like most unions in the video game industry, are represented by the Communications Workers of America. The vote took place yesterday, and while a portion of members did vote against unionization, the vast majority voted yes – 91 in fact.
While most of the unionization attempts we’ve been hearing about have generally focused on QA testers, the unionization at Sega of America includes a variety of departments, including localization, marketing, brand marketing, sales, product development, games as a service, and of course, QA. According to IGN, other departments are included as well that were not listed. According to a tweet from AEGIS-CWA, the group is now the largest multi-department union in the video game industry.
