Seekers Of Skyveil, Elodie's F2P MOBA/Extraction Experience, Won't Even Make Its 1st Month Birthday

We've only really known about Seekers of Skyveil or about a year and a half. We first reported on the F2P MOBA/extraction title by Elodie Games back in October 2023. Ironically, we added the game to our list of Steam Next Fest games we were keeping an eye on just 3 weeks ago. What we certainly didn't see coming, given that early access just started three weeks ago, was that the game and its studio wouldn't make it to the end of launch month.

In a message to all players, Elodie Games announced that effective March 31st, Seekers of Skyveil will closed down. Elodie Games will close down with it. After explaining the past, the restructuring of the studio, and the confidence investors had to let the company continue working on the title, the message goes on to say, "We are incredibly proud of what we created. Our goal was always to deliver something unique and worth experiencing. We believe we accomplished that. Despite the passion and long hours we poured into Seekers of Skyveil, we struggled to reach the critical mass of players needed to sustain it long-term. Without the necessary funding to continue development and marketing efforts, we have no choice but to bring this short journey to an end."

I mean, they're not wrong, but it's still a very quick decision and one I think was likely already known about ahead of early access. The game was F2P, so it wasn't like they would have an influx of cash with launch. The company, at least the higher ups, had to know this was coming for longer than 3 weeks now if the closure is happening as fast as this. It really feels like a "well, publish it and see if we make money, if not we're done" situation.

Honestly, it's kind of stunning. It's been in early access for only 3 weeks and it won't even make it to be a month old. It's right up there with Spectre Divide announcing their closing just two weeks after Season 1 and the console launch dropped.

From now until the 31st, almost everything has been made free in the game and purchases have been shut off. You won't be able to play after the 31st, though. If you did happen to buy anything, you will be getting a Steam refund.
