Salem Crafting MMO Moves from Beta to Launch
It's been a long time since we first sat down to do a First Look of Salem, the free to play crafting/survival MMO from Mortal Moments. A lot has changed in those almost 3 years, and by a lot I mean almost 300% more content has been added in just the last year alone.
Sometimes our kids just grow up though, and Mortal Moments is allowing their baby to finally see the light of an official release. Salem is now available to all players and will have a new expedition server added to celebrate the launch. According to John Carver, Salem's Project Lead, these expedition servers ensure that new players will always be able to get a footing in their new world regardless of if they play today or 6 years from now. What may come as a bit of a shock to hear from a lead though are some of his comments in the release announcement post. My particular favorite is, "Where some people see a toxic community unwelcoming and off-putting I simply see a passionate community who is protective of their home and wary of the mainstream gaming culture that taints so much outside our walls." It's not everyday that you see a project lead rationalizing away toxic feedback.
Other new features of the launch include Animal Husbandry (no, not that, it just means the ability to care for and raise livestock), Statues that grant player bonuses, and cannons...which in the time of the Salem witch trials were just as likely to kill you as your enemy. Cannons in Salem are no different.
Head on over to the official site to get started if Salem sounds like something you'd like to check out.
