Did anyone see this coming? I’m stoked, guys!

RuneScape creator Andrew Gower has announced Brighter Shores, a retro-style fantasy MMORPG for PC and Mac platforms (via Steam). Set to launch later this year, this indie game by Fen Research has been in development for a decade and promises to deliver a cozy and relaxing atmosphere to the genre. With his signature style and the new Fenforge engine, Brighter Shores aims to offer a smooth and enjoyable experience that’s free-to-play.

The game transports players to an enchanting world, starting in the peaceful coastal town of Hopeport where they take on the role of a town guard. However, their responsibilities soon expand as they discover a greater threat looming over the fantastical world of Adothria. They choose from three classes: Cryoknight, Hammermage, or Guardian. Brighter Shores features a nostalgic diorama art style with quirky characters, captivating locations, and engaging storyline.

Gower said, “Creating this game has been a real labour of love. At times it has felt like an insurmountably ambitious task, so it's amazing to finally see it coming together in the way I hoped. I can’t wait to see the world full of players enjoying what we have created.”

Something else worth noting is that Brighter Shores will focus on an inclusive premium pass for players seeking additional quests, adventures, and stories when it comes to microtransactions.
