RuneScape Board Game And Tabletop Role-Playing Game Coming This Year
Steamforged Games has adapted several video games for tabletop, including Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dark Souls.
RuneScape is heading to a new zone later this year: your tabletop.
Jagex is partnering with Steamforged Games to create a board game and role-playing game set in the RuneScape universe for release later in 2022. The board game will make its first appearance on Kickstarter, while the RPG will be directly launched.
The games will pull their material from the long history of RuneScape, using adventures, characters, and locations from the venerable MMORPG. Crafting and upgrading equipment, skill improvement, cooking, NPCs, and more are all expected to be included in the games.
The RPG sourcebook will be an illustrated, hardcover book that is "compatible with the fifth edition ruleset of the world’s favourite roleplaying tabletop game" -- which the press release apparently couldn't mention by name, but we know what they're talking about.
Steamforged Games is no stranger when it comes to adapting video-game worlds into tabletop games. Its other titles include board based on Monster Hunter: World, Horizon: Zero Dawn, the Resident Evil franchise, and Dark Souls.
