UPDATED: RUMOR: A Game Of Thrones MMO May Be In The Works At Nexon
It’s reportedly set somewhere around Season 4 or 5 of the show.
UPDATE 4/30/2024: Redanian has released an update saying that their source has clarified that the Game of Thrones MMO mentioned below is actually being made by Netmarble and not NEXON as they originally claimed. They also clarified that it is a mobile game that was announced a few years ago. Pretty disappointing, actually.
Original Article: If the rumors are correct, Nexon may be taking a crack at the Game of Thrones IP. According to a report on Redanian Intelligence, the developer is working on a new MMO set in the GoT universe. More specifically, the report states that the game is set somewhere around Season 4 or 5 of the show and takes place in the North – as Winterfell and The Wall are featured. The timing is reportedly based on Roose Bolton already being the Warden of the North while Jon Snow and Sam Tarly are hanging out on The Wall. Of course, if this is an MMORPG, the other kingdoms would likely play a role and eventually be visitable as well.
As you’d expect of a game based on a popular IP, this game reportedly features well-known characters, although Redanian states that the actors from the show will not be reprising their roles to voice the characters. The report also states that the game is online and features a story campaign.
As for the player’s character, it seems players will choose between a male or female character with the unchosen one being part of the game’s story in some way. Their overall impression is that this might be something like Elder Scrolls Online.
If the rumors are true, the game sounds like it could also be something more like Genshin Impact with a more single-player aspect while still being online. That said, it’s all guesswork for now. We have, however, reached out to Nexon for confirmation and will update this piece when we hear back.
