Riot Games Reveals Their Development Environment Was Compromised Earlier This Week
They state there is “no indication that player or personal information was obtained.”
Here’s your dose of pre-weekend bad news – and a reminder to probably change your login information if you’re playing any of Riot’s games. Today, the developer announced via Twitter that at some point earlier this week, a social engineering attack on their development environment resulted in a breach. They didn’t offer any more details than that, as it appears they still don’t have any – or at least any they’re willing to share at the moment.
What the post did state is that “there is no indication that player data or personal information was obtained”. Still, while there may be no indicators, we’re going to give you the standard, “update your login info” statement now.
On Riot’s end, another downside of the breach is that it has impacted the upcoming release of content. They’re working to fix this, but it means the patch schedule for multiple games is going to be off for a bit.
Earlier this week, systems in our development environment were compromised via a social engineering attack. We don’t have all the answers right now, but we wanted to communicate early and let you know there is no indication that player data or personal information was obtained.
