Riot Games Now Owns One Of Wargaming’s Studios
One of the largest studios in Australia is will now be working on Riot’s various games.
Riot Games has extended its reach into Australia in a big way. The company purchased Wargaming Sydney from the World of Tanks developer with the intention of having the studio assist in the development of Riot’s library of games.
Originally founded as BigWorld in 2002, the studio was bought by Wargaming in 2012 and rebranded as Wargaming Sydney. Now dubbed Riot Sydney, the studio is one of the largest in Australia and is responsible for the development of various tools and software architecture useful in creating online games like MMOs. That makes the acquisition particularly useful to Riot who are working on their own MMO set in the League of Legends universe. The MMO isn’t the only game the studio will be working on, of course. Existing games such as Valorant and League of Legends will be benefiting from the purchase as well.
Interestingly, Wargaming Sydney is the only part of Wargaming that Riot has elected to buy, according to The Verge. Or, perhaps it’s the only studio Wargaming wanted to sell. Either way, the benefit to Riot is that it will help them grow their presence in Australia. The purchase amount for the studio hasn’t been shared by either company, so no, we don’t know how many Bethesdas it’s worth.
