Riot Games deactivates all League of Legends skin codes in a bid to combat scammers
If you fancy purchasing rare and interesting player skins for your League of Legends champions from outside vendors, that's a pastime that has unfortunately come to an abrupt end. Riot Games has made an executive decision to nerf skin codes entirely. It makes sense, of course, after witnessing some truly heinous scams where players end up paying an astronomical sum of money for fraudulent codes that they may never even receive.
Riot Games has been offering special skins to players that attend specific conventions or events for some time now, and it's been a hobby for many players to collect redemption codes and then sell them at ridiculously high prices. Ravenous League of Legends players pay a ridiculous amount of money to obtain the skin, and then they never receive them. This is obviously a problem, and to solve it Riot Games has simply decided to stop it from happening by pulling the plug at its cause.
"We are working with multiple payment processors to inform them of the situation and recommend they no longer process fraudulent payments from these sites. Additionally we will be deactivating all previously issued skin codes starting today. If you have a skin code that you acquired legitimately please send a request to Player Support and include proof of ownership. We’d be happy to help redeem the content to your account, but please note after 23/07/14 we will no longer be redeeming codes for any reason."
