Riot Announces Huge Overhaul Of AI-Powered Bots In League of Legends
Despite not being controlled by real players, they will be able to jungle, gank, and defeat dragons nonetheless.
Those pesky bots in League of Legends are finally getting reworked to make them less robotic and more like pros.
In a new developer update, Riot announced it is overhauling the Co-op vs. AI mode in the MOBA so it feels like a match played by actual humans. Bots will be able to jungle, gank, and defeat dragons. The team said AI will control all the bots at once, so they work together united as well as learn and react to changes in the metagame.
The primary objective behind the revamp appears to be providing players with an enhanced avenue for learning and skill improvement, which is less stressful and high-pressure than playing against other players. Currently, bots in Co-op vs. AI lack basic gameplay skills, and the match doesn't resemble how modern players play League. Improving bot behavior by expanding their character knowledge, enabling them to function as a team, and matching their skills with players is a significant step towards achieving this goal, Riot said in a blog post.
League of Legends players will be able to test out the new system of bots later on this year for two weeks in order for the team to get some feedback prior to officially launching the update.
