Rift Patron, REX, and Credit Pricing Being Adjusted; EU NOT Happy
Trion Worlds announced that the upcoming 3.4 update, scheduled to release on October 7th, will bring more than just a change in content to the free to play MMORPG Rift. In addition to a new calling, new zone, and everything else the update offers, Trion Worlds will be adjusting the current rates used for Patron (subscription) status, REX (Rift's cash to platinum option), and Credit (cash shop currency) purchases.
Trion Worlds points out currency exchange rates as the primary factor for the price adjustments and is using the change to also standardize the amount of credits offered in all packages so all regions of the game have the same number of credits available in each bundle.
The downside? Some regions, particularly our friends in the EU, are seeing VERY noticeable rate hikes when you look at real world currency/game currency ratios. Here's the proposed list of new rates:
750 Credit Pack: $4.99 USD - 4.99 EU - 3.99 GBP
3,250 Credit Pack: $19.99 USD - 19.99 EU - 15.49 GBP
8,500 Credit Pack: $49.99 USD - 49.99 EU - 38.49 GBP
18,500 Credit Pack: $99.99 USD - 99.99 EU - 76.49 GBP
REX: $9.99 USD – 9.99 EU – 7.49 GBP1 Month Patron: $14.99 USD – 12.99 EU – 9.99 GBP
3 Month Patron: $40.47 USD – 38.97 EU – 26.97 GBP
6 month Patron: $71.94 USD – 62.94 EU – 47.94 GBP
12 Month Patron: $131.88 USD - 113.88 EU – 83.88 GBP
You'll notive that there is very little fluctuation in the Patron status prices, but the REX and Credit prices for the EU are quite a bit higher than they are now causing many in the forums to be quite upset.
REX and Credit prices will remain at their current rates until 3.4 launches so if you want to spend some money in game, now is the time to do so. Current Patrons will also be grandfathered in at their current rate per month as long as they maintain Patron status. Let that status lapse though, and when you resub you'll be paying the new rates.
