Respawn Opening New Vancouver Studio For Continued Apex Legends Development
Respawn Entertainment is turning ten and it appears the company's birthday present to itself is a pretty successful battle royale in the form of Apex Legends. Despite the work done to promote the game at its launch, the ongoing success has apparently been a bit of a pleasant surprise for the developer, and the result is that the company now plans to open a second studio in Vancouver to continue handling its development.
As it turns out, the studio won't be launching from nothing. Rather, the company has slowly been growing an on-site development team via the EA Vancouver campus over the last eight months. Now, they're prepared to open hires even further.
Interestingly, according to EA DFO Blake Jorgensen, who spoke with Gamesindustry.biz on the matter, EA intends for Apex Legends to have at least a ten-year lifespan and believes it will be the company's main shooter in 2021. So the launch of this new studio is obviously preparing for that prediction.
On another note, the article also indicates that part of the decision to build another team to help with Apex Legends was the desire at Respawn to avoid overworking its team in order to keep up with player demand for content. Honestly, who would have thought you hire more people to keep up with more work?
