Remember Splitgate? 1047 Studios Teases Announcement In 3 Days With Rhino-Looking Video Clip
The team originally moved away from Splitgate development to make something new.
Almost 2 years ago, 1047 Games stopped development on their shooter Splitgate. The announcement was a bit of a surprise as the F2P game that featured portal-like, well, portals, was received well ("Very Positive" on Steam with over 111K reviews) and it pulled a ton of investment money into the company.
Why did they end development? At the time, the team said that there were problems with Splitgate that were just a bit too daunting to fix after the fact given the small team that initially cobbled together the project. They wanted to re-imagine what the game could be with a bigger team, budget, and more tools. The goal of the "re-direct" was to eventually return with a "sequel" to Splitgate made in Unreal Engine 5 by the now larger team.
Whether this would simply be an upgraded version of the existing Spiltgate or a full-blown sequel wasn't made entirely clear. Honestly, it still isn't totally clear, but it seems like we'll have all the answers we want in about 3 days.
The Splitgate site now has a countdown on it, and the game's X account shows a very brief video of a very "Rhino" looking character claiming that we will be "their's" in 3 days.

The initial response from fans seems to be full of excitement. We'll have to wait to see if something is releasing on the 18th or if the company is just ready to reveal what they've been working on for two years ahead of a future release.
