Rainbow 6 Siege's "Biggest Transformation In History" Comes In Year 10's Graphics, Audio, And Gameplay Upgrades
That's on top of the new year's typical hero, gadget, and trailer.
When Ubisoft revealed their financial report last week, the company teased big things coming for Rainbow 6 Siege as the team-based shooter heads into its 10th year of operation. Obviously that meant that we could expect some type of in-game event, but it turns out that there's a great deal more than that planned this year.
While we have to wait for a special "Siege X Showcase" stream from the team on March 13th for the full details, Ubisoft has already teased what players can expect via a trailer shown at this past weekend's Six Invitational. Calling the plans the "biggest transformation in the game's history," the update will include graphical and audio enhancements, deepened tactical gameplay, and "new ways" to play the game. What exactly that means remains to be seen.
As for some things we know a bit more about, the actual 10th year of the game will kick off soon and that update comes with the launch of the year's first season. That means a new Operator named Rauora will join the Attackers and be available at the start of the season via the Operation Prep Phase Battle Pass. You can snag Rauora two week later if you'd like to use Renown or R6 Credits instead.
Rauora comes with a new "Deployable Omnilink Mesh" or D.O.M. launcher that allows them to deploy a bulletproof net across doors. The shield will open slightly to still allow drones to creep under them and while both attackers and defenders can interact with the net, attackers do have an advantage. The D.O.M. can block enemy lines of sight, it's faster for attackers to open the barricade, and there is an initial period of time where defenders cannot interact with the panel. It's an interesting way to not only hide behind a bulletproof shield, but also a way for attackers to dictate the flow of combat.
Just keep in mind that "bulletproof" doesn't mean invincible. There are ways to deal with the panel...explosions perhaps?
See it in action in the videos below showing off the cinematic trailer for Year 10, an intro video to Rauora, and the look at the battle pass.
