PUBG: Battlegrounds Is Now Free-To-Play
Today's update includes new tutorial and training areas and new type of gear.
Ticket prices have dropped to zero on the original battle bus/plane, as PUBG: Battlegrounds has now gone free-to-play. The renamed PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds announced the move at The Game Awards in December and now offers a $12.99 Battlegrounds Plus upgrade that unlocks custom and ranked modes.
Krafton is running several events to go along with the game's new era. Earn points by completing simple daily missions (survive for 30 minutes and loot Lv.2 gear) that can be redeemed for "cheer" outfits and an emote. That event runs from today until February 1.
You can also accumulate Contraband Coupons by inviting friends to the game, while watching partnered streams can net you the Slick Escape Spray and Battle Hazard Logo Tee. These events run until February 9. More details on both events, as well as the list of approved partners, can be found in this announcement.
You can also check out today's patch notes, which include not only the F2P transition but a new category of gear, tactical gear, which currently consists of drones (for scouting) and EMT gear (for better healing). There's also a new tutorial, training, and practice modes to help new players ease into the game.
