PUBG's 2022 Roadmap Includes New Map, Changes To Old Maps, And Better Training Mode
Meanwhile, Krafton announces partnership with blockchain/NFT company.
Krafton's got plans for all kinds of acronyms today. We'll start with the one people actually (somewhat) like, PUBG: Battlegrounds, whose 2022 roadmap was published today.
- Q2 (April-June) will feature a rollback of the Sanhok map. Despite Krafton's attempts to "modernize" the space, many players "still preferred the original map." Also planned for the quarter are an additional 7.62mm assault rifle, improvements to Training Mode, and a "sub-update" for Paramo, meant to adjust "overly advantageous areas in the world."
- Q3 (July-September) will see a new 8x8 map, Kiki, that features "a near-future city that has been ravaged by the elements." It includes a large urban center with lots of verticality, as well as swamplands that can be navigated with the help of a new airboat vehicle. A weapon mastery overhaul will also be implemented during the quarter.
- In Q4 (October-December), the Vikendi map will see a "grand remake," and Arcade Mode will be overhauled.
In addition, Update 16.2 for PUBG went live on consoles today, after already being pushed on PCs last week. It adds all the features we learned about a few weeks ago, such as the extra-large Tactical Pack and ping-enabling Spotter Scope binoculars. You can check out the full patch notes on the PUBG site.
In other, less pleasing, Krafton acronym-related news, the developer and publisher has agreed to do business with blockchain company Solana "for the design and marketing of blockchain/NFT (non-fungible token) games and services." The press release announcing the partnership doesn't mention specific games -- notably, whether this will affect PUBG or whether it will be limited to new games -- but based on how recent NFT-related news has been received, it's unlikely to garner any goodwill toward players of the battle royale, even if that game remains untouched.
