Portal-Based Shooter Splitgate 2 Enters Open Alpha Testing
Interested players have four days to help test the game on PC and console.
Today, 1047 Games launched a four-day Open Alpha preview for its portal-based shooter Splitgate 2. The test is open to anyone on Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, and lasts until March 2. During this time, players can test the new 8v8v8 multi-team portal warfare. The test also offers players a look at new maps, weapons, and gear.
For those wondering, the multi-team portal warfare is the big-ticket item being focused on during this test. It’s a new 8v8v8 experience that takes place on the Glacier map, which is 20 times larger than any of the game’s arena maps. There are several options for multi-team game modes, including Hotzone, Domination, and Deathmatch. If the tease in the announcement is anything to go by, this map is located on a completely different world – or solar system, even. The developers are being super tease-y about this, however, so players may have to do a little detective work to figure out their location.
The test will also offer players a chance to check out the new Splitball and Firecracker arena modes. The first is a twist on modes like Capture the Flag and Oddball. Firecracker is inspired by Call of Duty’s Search and Destroy, but with various changes.
Of course, testers will get to play with new weapons and gear as well, and the devs have also made changes based on player feedback.
