Playstation Is Acquiring Esports Tournament Platform Repeat.gg
Sony is continuing their investments into the future of esports.
Sony Interactive Entertainment is acquiring Repeat.gg and furthering their investments with esports.
For those who don’t know, Repeat.gg hosts leaderboard tournaments that are made to make esports more accessible to players. These tournaments can be paid or unpaid as well. The wonderful thing about Repeat.gg is that it tracks how players are performing in games. This then allows players to participate in competitions without having to be online at the same time. Thus far, Repeat.gg has hosted over 100,000 tournaments with more than 2.3 million participants.
“At PlayStation, our vision for esports has always been about breaking down barriers for gamers to compete at all levels,” said Vice President of Global Competitive Gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Steve Roberts, according to Gameindustry.biz. “Together with the talented Repeat.gg team, we’re excited to explore more ways for players to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings. This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future.”
Despite the Sony Interactive Entertainment and Repeat.gg partnership, Repeat.gg stated that it will still continue to feature games on other platforms outside of PlayStation, and thus doesn't seem to be involved in an exclusve Sony partnership.
