PlanetSide 2's Nanite Systems Operatives Enter The Battlefield
We hope PlanetSide 2 players are prepared for their new robot overlords, because they've already dropped onto the surface of Auraxis. Nanite Systems Operatives (NSOs) are a new "faction" in the game, which arrived in yesterday's big patch for the game, along with DirectX 11 support, a new event, and changes to the spawn system.
NSOs are robotic soldiers available to all three factions. When a Member selects an NSO -- they're limited to PS2 subscribers -- and a continent to play on, they'll be assigned to whichever faction has the fewest members. The obvious intent is to try and balance out the sides and provide more interesting fights, but Daybreak said that the NSOs will also "invigorate some of the PlanetSide 2 lore." NSOs have their own gear, can play as any of the five non-MAX-suit classes, and cannot spawn faction-specific ground and air vehicles, but otherwise play exactly like human soldiers.
Also in yesterday's patch: PS2 now operates on DX11, moving up from DX9, which should lead to notable performance improvements on both older and newer machines. A "Refine and Refuel" event has been added to the events pool, and the Join Combat and spawn systems have received some significant work.
You can learn more about the update via the PS2 news page or by reading the producer's letter from Daybreak's Nick Silva. To celebrate the update, enter the code NSOPS2019 on your account page to unlock the NSX Tengu for all factions (including NSOs), and enjoy a whole week of double XP for all players, free and paid, from Sunday, April 28 to Sunday, May 5.
