PlanetSide 2 November Patch Will Push "Art Style Forward" With Improved Visuals For 10th Anniversary
"A fresh coat of paint" is what the devs said, so it's not a complete overhaul.
Rogue Planet Games is quickly approaching the 10th anniversary of PlanetSide 2 next month and will be celebrating with a patch dedicated to "pushing the art style forward," improving the visuals of many elements in-game. The devs are not "trying to reinvent the look," per se, but giving it "a fresh coat of paint" that is only possible thanks to new tech, art revisions, and work behind the scenes.
These improvements range from TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) + FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing) to making in-game metals shiny to modernized explosions. Rogue Planet Games go into detail and show clips on their recent blog, but they are a work in progress and not final. Moreover, the November patch will implement a better-performing spawn priority system, balance adjustments, new tricks up the Bastion Fleet Carrier's sleeve, and a new style of facility capture gameplay that will drastically shift the flow of battlefields in Auraxis.
Their blog also speaks a bit about their roadmap ambitions and how the development of the 1v1 version of Outfit Wars "took longer than anticipated." They've been on the "back foot for subsequent releases" but seem ready for the November patch release when that time comes.
As for the Outfit Wars, they revealed the event "was a mixed success." Players invested in a "clearer competitive venue" - among other reasons - enjoyed it, but "the first three weeks were marred by issues with hitching, team sorting, and UI readability problems." However, thanks to all of the participants, the devs have "a solid foundation to build upon for future wars."
