PlanetSide 2’s Latest Dev Letter Talks Directives
It also addresses cheating. It seems it’s that time of the year.
In case you missed it on Friday, Rouge Planet Games published a new dev letter detailing their plans for PlanetSide 2's Directives and providing players with some insight into what goes into the system. It discusses how directives help keep new players engaged with the shooter once they pass the tutorial by giving players something to do and rewarding them for it, noting that they’re “goals that are measurable for the player”. Most of us would probably think of this as an achievement system.
The game offers long-term directives and plans them around existing game features – partially to help keep players from forgetting they exist. The goal is to make sure players hit these marks at a decent pace without going too fast. And, of course, the end result is that when players hit these goals, they earn rewards.
Rewards can’t be obtained retroactively, so once the structure is in place, players will have to forgo being rewarded for anything they’ve already achieved. The rewards players receive are determined by tier, ranging from Certs, Title, and Decal for Tier 1 to A Vehicle, Infantry, Weapon or Cosmetic, and a Deluxe Implant Pack for Tier 4. Full details are available on the PlanetSide 2 site.
