Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Emergency Maintenance To Address Server Load
Have you enjoyed your couple of days exploring the world of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis? So have we! We even posted our First Look video on the game yesterday. One of the things I mentioned early in the video was the server lag. Since launch, loading times have been inconsistent and sometimes your character just sits and wails away on a target for 60 seconds and nothing moves...only to have the server catch up and everything on screen bounces around to the correct positions and a ton of damage registers. It's been a bit annoying to say the least. It's also a very special feeling to run away from an enemy and toss up a healing item, only to have the server "catch up" and you find out "oh, I was actually already dead". PSE Bursts? Forget about it.
The PSO2: NGS team tweeted about the issue last night and as it turns out they aren't spending long waiting to try and resolve the issue. Today the game will be taken down for emergency maintenance from 7 AM PDT to 12:00 PM PDT. This 5 hours is labeled as being directly aimed a "server load" so hopefully we'll get the fixes the server badly needs. The team does warn though that this end time is an estimate and is being upfront in saying that the time could change based on circumstances. They are also considering some type of compensation gift to players for their trouble.
So yeah, go get some sleep, you've got a few hours now!
