Pax Dei Started Early Access Today And Early Steam Reviews Are Rocky

Building is being well received, but that's about it right now.

Despite trying to get out ahead of any misconceptions players may have had about their MMO, Mainframe Industries isn't having a great initial batch of reviews for the early access of Pax Dei that started today.

The team had previously tried to get the word out to gamers about what the game was and was not, and then followed that up with a second post talking about what features still needed work. However, in my write up of those features needing work yesterday, I expressed concern that the early access was maybe too early. The post said they planned to be in early access for at least a year and specifically pointed out combat and civilization updates that just weren't ready.

That seems to be exactly what the Pax Dei early access is getting slammed for in early Steam reviews.

Coming in right now as "Mostly Negative", again it is still early, most of the gripes center around my exact concerns. Many of the reviews focus on poor performance and poor optimization, others focus on things the team tried to explain in the days leading up to early access. Combat and "having things to do" come up in a lot of reviews, and players who bought the higher costed Founder's Packs and left reviews are feeling considerably burned.

Even users who promise to return to their review in the future mention the same negatives. Multiple reviews also advise other players to wait at least a year before coming in if they haven't already spent at least $39.99 to get in now.

One thing people ARE enjoying, and this isn't surprising as it is the core thing you can do in game right now, are the building features. Gathering, on the other hand, feels slow to many players who left reviews.

If you haven't bought in yet, I'd suggest waiting a bit. Maybe you don't have to wait a full year, but I'd wait to see if Pax Dei keeps its promises in their roadmap and how the next month or so plays out, at least.
