Path of Exile Highlights Most Popular Microtransactions
What are the best microtransactions? Probably the one you don't have to pay for, or maybe the one where you get exactly what you want from the loot box. The actual answer, however, is Infernal Armour -- if you play Path of Exile, that is.
Grinding Gear Games has published a list of its most popular microtransactions, "ordered by quantity purchased rather than how much they contribute to overall sales." At the top of the armour list is the Infernal Armour Set, which has the benefit of being up for sale for five years but was still an "absolute hit amongst the community" when it launched.
There's a theme to most of the categories, such as "Wings" being popular for back attachments and the overall popularity of Celestial and Infernal gear. For weapons and shields, "flashy" is the name of the game, whereas people prefer "relatively simple effects" for portals. There are even category listings for stash tabs, hideouts, and miscellaneous microtransactions, such as skin transfers and character slots.
If you're a Path of Exile fan, it might be cool to take a look at the lists and see if your preferences follow the most popular trends or if you tend to vary from the established norms. Me, I hate looking like everyone else, so I'd probably be one of those guys wearing something in the second or third tier of popularity -- but at least I'd never be caught dead in, say, a green bunny suit.
