Pantheon: Rise Of The Fallen's Creative Director Spotlights Art Direction And Mountainous Terrain In Recent Stream
A regal city with beautiful points of interest and climbable rocky terrain on the outside is a taste of what's coming.
The recent Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen stream between Associate Content Creator Tony Guidi and Creative Director Chris Perkins of Visionary Realms dove into the game's art direction and concepts. With a focus on world-building, Perkins showed off some of the art team's work that puts a lens under a massive city with gorgeous points of interest and mountainous lands beyond that players will explore.
As a "behind the scenes" look, the art shown during the stream could be just rough ideas or could be set in stone for the game, so take them as you will. Although, it is clear from Perkins's commentary that Pantheon's art direction is leaning toward servicing the continuity of its world. Everything seems to have a place and purpose, with the layout of specific areas requiring different player skillsets. Additionally, there are exclusive locations like the dojo where Monk players start their journey in the game.
One of the big takeaways from the stream was the concept art for Availia, a regal-looking port city that seemingly expands into various stunning points of interest. For example, a religious temple in Availia sits above a cliff, a flower-filled tree hangs above the building as waterfalls run down the sides and front into a pool below. It definitely nails the fantasy aspect, and plenty of other examples do a great job representing the world Visionary is making.
Even more surprising were the towering and dense mountainous landscapes they showed with in-game footage. Perkins pointed out how Visionary wants more verticality within Pantheon's maps and to reinforce "a sense of freedom" that players will get once they start exploring. From climbing to discovering unique landmarks, there's a layer of intrigue outside civilization that Visionary hopes will help flesh out the world and its gameplay.
