Overwatch 2 Does Away With Loot Boxes As Part Of The Free-To-Play Conversion
The game will have battle passes instead.
If there’s one good thing to come out of Blizzard shifting Overwatch 2 to free-to-play, it’s that the company has decided to nix loot boxes in the game at the same time. That doesn’t mean they won’t have anything for players to spend their money on. Of course, they will. It’s just that rather than throwing money down in hopes of possibly, maybe getting something good, players will know what they’re getting – or might earn if they keep up with the battle pass.
The company revealed the shift in a recent video highlighting what they refer to as the “Seasonal Content Vision”. The video outlines plans for the battle pass system and how they’ll use it to keep players swimming in new content. Current plans are to release new Heroes every other pass and new maps during the ones that don’t add new Heroes. Those interested can view the entire video below.
