Overwatch 2’s Battle Pass Will Change For The Better Come Season 2... Hopefully
Or maybe we will just have a lot more of the same.
Many players were excited to learn that Overwatch 2 would be doing away with loot boxes in exchange for a Battle Pass with their new free-to-play model. However, after the release of the game, people were quickly underwhelmed with the F2P Battle Pass and its lackluster rewards.
Thankfully, the player's voices have been heard and the new executive producer for Overwatch 2, Jared Neuss, has brought this up in the latest Blizzard blog post. “I could say a lot here, but I think a good place to start is saying that we aren’t completely satisfied with how everything feels right now.” Neuss began. “...we also recognize that today’s experience has an opportunity for improvement that we need to focus on.”
Blizzard says it will be bringing new changes come Season 2. To start, each event will now have a skin that can be earned simply by playing. The Twitch Drops program will also continue. This reward program delivers skins, voice lines, weapon charms, and more simply by tuning into a Twitch streamer’s live stream for a given amount of time. This can be accumulated over different streams and is an easy and effective way to gain skins with little to no effort needed.
Then, come Season 3 there will be a “mix of Battle Pass changes, more interesting Challenges to pursue, and more exciting play-focused progression systems for you all to dig into.”
Blizzard also has plans to make its support role characters “more fun and more rewarding to play.” which will hopefully address the long queue times for tank and DPS roles. Players can look forward to the start of Overwatch 2’s second season come December 6.
