To No One's Surprise, Firefall Has Apparently Shut Down (UPDATE: Or Maybe Not)
UPDATE 8/31: The Firefall website is back online and the game is playable again, though people are reporting that gameplay features are limited and the game still isn't listed on Steam. So it appears to be still playable, but barely. The real end is probably coming soon.
Original story: The last time we heard anything about Firefall, it wasn't good news. Now, it seems like the ultimate bad news has come to pass, as the once-promising MMOFPS appears to have been shut down for good.
The Firefall website can't be reached, and players are reporting that they can't log in to the servers. The news doesn't come as a great shock, considering the troubles the game has seen over the past several months, with layoffs, missing payroll in December, the dreaded "strategic reorganization," and a sale to a cashmere company, all of which were met by silence or reassurances from higher-ups that everything was fine. Maybe Mark Kern can buy it up really cheaply now.
If this is the end for Firefall, what are your thoughts?
