Nexon And Games Workshop Reach Deal To Bring Warhammer: Age Of Sigmar Title To PC, Consoles, And Mobile
We don't know a whole lot about the title yet, but they stay away from the term MMORPG
Going into this, let me just say that there isn't a whole lot of information here yet. What we do know is that NEXON and Games Workshop have come to an agreement for the global distribution of a Warhammer: Age of Sigmar title. The plan is to release the title on PC, consoles, and on both iOS and Android mobile platforms.
Besides that info, the team is being a bit secretive with the details in their press release. One term they do not use in the official announcement is "MMORPG", so I wouldn't expect anything like the old Warhammer Online title of the past.
Instead, the team describes the game as being a "PvE Multiplayer RPG Virtual World" that will "feature a socially interactive player-versus-environment world supported by Nexon’s world-class Live Operations for sustaining the fun with new content and service."
Outside of that rather vague description, the game will include "seasons" with new seasons adding new characters and regions for players to unlock and strategize exactly how they want to free these realms from chaos with their friends.
The game will be supported in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Traditional /Simplified), Russian, Turkish, Portuguese and Arabic.
Warhammer has had a rough time of it lately, particularly Age of Sigmar, and I'm not really sure what great aspect Nexon brings to this project. Honestly, while I LOVE the idea of a Warhammer title, I think I'll temper some of that enthusiasm until I see exactly what we're getting here. With mobile being a planned platform, I have a bit of a bad feeling that this could miss the mark for Warhammer fans...we'll wait and see...and isn't Frontier working on a Warhammer Age of Sigmar RTS title still?
