New World's Scot Lane Talks The June Announcement, Declining Player Numbers, And PvP
They are really building up this June Announcement.
New World has released a new kind of video today where they look forward to what's happening in the month of April. Of course, Season 5's launch is the highlight of this month's activities. This introduces cooking updates, mounts in OPR, and the conclusion of the main story quest update. Also on tap this month is the Spring Festival event where you can earn cosmetics, dyes, and a new dance emote.
All of that is well and good, but there are a couple of more pressing questions the MMORPG's community is asking. Luckily, the New World team has never shied away from answering the tough questions (for the most part), and this video is no exception. Game Director Scot Lane joins the discussion a few minutes in and they discuss two important things; Why we have to wait till June for the "big" announcement, and the declining player population in New World.
Scot admits some of the reason we're waiting till June for the big announcement is that they are creating a moment. Building the hype as it were as Scot says they are announcing something pretty big. They are also waiting on Summer Game Fest to make their announcement. (It basically HAS to be a console release, right? Given no expansion this year this would be the only thing we can think of that is worth the hype.)
Scot also talks about player server population in New World, and that it is a fair thing for players to be concerned about. They are expecting the June announcement to reinvigorate the game, exciting existing players, bringing players back, and introduce new players to the game.
The upcoming June announcement will also include something for PvP players according to Scot, but they also reiterate that the ratio of PvE players vs. PvP players is 5:1, so priorities have to be on the PvE side of things. There is, however, new content coming for PvP players Scot says, so that's good news for the PvP players out there. Scot says that he thinks a new PvP mode will satiate players more so than just another OPR map, so maybe that's a little tease about what's coming in June.
You can watch the entire "Eye On Aeternum" episode in the video below. It's good insight and I think they do a good job of communicating with the player base in this episode and addressing the concerns of the players. At this point, the ball is in their court to make this June announcement live up to the hype they are obviously trying to build for it.
