New World Lets You Summon Your On Sandwurm With New Heartrune Coming With Blood And Sand Update
Unleash a Sandwurm Devourer on your enemies.
The Devourer Heartrune will be releasing with the Blood and Sand update for New World on July 6th, and with it you'll be able to unleash your very own Sandwurm on your enemies in the MMORPG.
In the latest Steam blog post for New World, the devs tell a pretty funny story about the first iteration of the Devourer Heartrune in which, during testing, they were using the wiggle dance animation as the summon animation for the Sandwurm.
“During early prototyping we used emotes as animations to set up the ability. There was a point in time where the pose to summon it used the “Wiggle Dance” emote, and although it looked kind of ridiculous, I will always love the concept of doing a little wiggly dance to summon the Devourer.”
The new Devourer Heartrune in New World has two parts, an initial knockback as it emerges, and a follow-up chomp.
"Most of the time, targets will get knocked outside of the radius of the follow-up attack by the first hit. But those that Grit through that first attack, or avoid it via other mechanisms, will take a bigger chunk of damage,” said Combat Designer Josh Hurley.
While we're talking New World, Wave 2.2 of the PTR patch notes are up on Steam as well. Umbral Shard rewards for the Sandwurm encounter have been increased, improvements to the Hadish Azar seasonal encounter have been made, and there are plenty of other small tweaks.
