New World Devs Discusses Their Development Process And How They Tackle Bugs
According to the team at Amazon Games, the Public Test Realm is super important.
What is the journey of a patch note like?
During episode 27 of Forged in Aeternum, the team behind New World over at Amazon Games dives into their development process, and the importance of the Public Test Realm (PTR). They discuss how the PTR is a crucial tool for finalizing releases, and how the QA team plays a critical role in ensuring that the release is ready for the MMORPG's live servers.
For example, there was a bug that arose during the Winter Festival update release in December 2022. Some players reported that the first three Winter Convergence quests were not accessible, and the QA team discovered that the quest completion data for unrelated main story quests had been mistakenly used in the update for these new quests. The team also described the process of identifying and resolving this bug.
