New World Deep Dives Into All Things Controller Support
Controller support is coming soon to New World.
Controller support is coming to New World pretty soon, and the devs just released a deep dive into the features the MMORPG will support at launch, and what's coming in the future.
To begin with, the controller enemy target lock and aim assist will not be activated in PvP to help maintain balance. The devs will be keeping an eye on controllers in PvP going forward and will evaluate and iterate where needed.
PvE in New World will feature aim assist with aiming ranged attacks and the reticle speed will slow down when hovering over a valid target. Enemy target lock allows players to lock the camera onto an AI enemy via controller or mouse and keyboard input.
Freeform movement allows running in all directions, including towards the camera. Holding block or aim will revert to the normal strafe navigation. Activating target lock will make your character strafe around the target. Backward movement has been sped up in normal strafe navigation.
There will, of course, be a radial menu for quick access to commonly used functions like emotes, commands, and camping. New shift modifiers will allow for quick access to all combat abilities, and UI help bars and shortcut buttons will provide an improved user experience while navigating the UI with a controller.
Controller support in New World will launch with some preset control setups, but features such as rebinding keys will be available in the future.
